Care for Guildford was set up as a charity in 1976 to help people in our local community who were unable to get help from their own neighbours or whose relatives lived too far away or were working during the day. Today, we have a team of around 100 volunteers who collectively help around 500 Guildford-based clients who often have no-one else to call on, cannot manage public transport or are unable to afford taxis.
In 2024, we were proud to be awarded the Mayor’s Award for Voluntary Service which recognised individuals and groups who have made a significant impact on the community. The award is given to those who have gone above and beyond to improve the lives of others.
Over the last 10 years, we have collected completed over 33,000 jobs for our Guildford-based clients. We are currently completing around 3,550 jobs per year. Our volunteers are reliable, friendly and build a great rapport with clients, which makes the service so highly regarded in the local community.
We rely on donations from clients who value the personal service that the volunteers offer. Each year, any surplus amounts are donated to a relevant local charity, selected by our volunteers – for example, in 2023, we purchased wheelchairs for the Royal Surrey County Hospital and in 2024, we made donations to the Samson Centre and Driving the Disabled.
